IS ALL AROUND YOU NOWHEREIN PARTICULAR
LOOK AND LISTEN WHILE YOU TRAVEL
IT IS WELL WORTH IT
All photos here are just the ones taken on that l ONE journey, which made the trip more fulfilling.
Attending a funeral is an obligation to the family of the deceased and to pay one's respect to the
departed. So it is a commitment. Here it was worthwhile, as there was something we received in return
thanks to nature.
In similar vein, many people would have traveled long distances to see relatives, and in order to feel that
it is not just a chore and an obligation, taking in the journey and enjoying the natural beauty around you
while you travel is something we either tend to forget, take for granted, or miss altogether.
MANY OF YOU WOULD HAVE TRAVELED OVER THE LONG HOLIDAY WEEKEND, AND SOME
OF YOU MAY BE ONLY GETTING BACK HOME TODAY. HOWEVER HAVE YOU STOPPED TO
THINK THAT YOU MAY HAVE MISSED THE BEST PART OF YOUR HOLIDAY!
It is all in the journey. In this beautiful country of ours, \We tend to forget that when \\'e are on the road.
We should not just race to get to our destination, as we may have missed the best part of the journey.
Wherever yon go. .you have different vistas, views and sightings. you only have to be aware of your
surroundings, and be \\'atchful in case miss some wonderful sights.
It was only a few days ago. that I had to go for a funeral from Minneriya to a little village in Ampara.
called Lathugala. The distance was approximately 150km.
I passed through the towns of Kadurulwela. Manampitiya` Aralaganwila. Maha Oya, Rajagalathenna
and Walgampura. before reaching my destination. One doets not have to deviate from the main road
at all. I have only shown photos. I have selected or what I consider you may like. How ever there are
many sights that you if you Were making the same journey Would choose to show. They include
perhaps the Japan Friendship Bridge across the Mahaweli in Manampitiya which We cross. or even
the massive Maduru Oya Darn that is visible from the main road. Therefore what you see is merely a
selection of one persons preference while your preferences may differ. Wbat I want to illstrate is that
our country"s changing landscape, wherever you happen to travel from or to. has something worth
seeing, enjoying and taking in as part of the journey.. instead of thinking one has to reach one's
destination in a hurry. and miss out on some of the best sights.
I would further add that each journey one makes even if it is to the same destination, may
result in different vistas, and sights. For certain the birds one encounters will be different, but
due to the different seat\sons, the cultivations will also differ. In a few weeks this journey would
have been full of newly planted paddy fields spreading long distances as far as the eye can
see, a joy to the senses. We live in an era where we appear to seek instant gratification, and
fail to appreciate that which is truly marvelous in the process. These photos are mere fragments
of the endless possibilities that await you on your journey .It is up to us to enjoy the beauty of
the country, as who knows how long it will last due to man's own destructive instincts at
exploitation to turn nature into desert. .

So next time you go on a journey, leave an extra hour or two, in case you wish to stop, and taken in
the beauty, perhaps a photo or two, and enjoy the scenery, a sunset on the way, or some birds on a
tree close by, some of which you will not in your daily live. Don't only think of the pit stop, to satiate

I know when people go on pilgrimage, they just go to the place of worship, but tend to forget the
journey there is tuner surprises, a form of true pilgrimage of the past, where pilgrims took days to
travel and actually enjoyed the whole journey itself, something which modern travel has tended to
It is important to share this beauty with children, who unless the parents point out the natural beauty,
could be simply playing a game on their smartphone, completely oblivious to the gifts of nature all
around them. It is the simple natural beauty we
have been blessed with which is priceless. Others can be purchased! We are a blessed nation, but
foreigners seem to see it and not us!
